Unlike NEET exam for entry to medical colleges, engineering students have to appear for many different entrance exams. Primarily, you need to appear for the entrance exam that your state demands for admission to engineering colleges then you need to appear for JEE Mains for getting admission into NIT is for CFTI's then you can also appear for entrance exams conducted by different Deemed to be universities having engineering colleges or private unaided colleges which also conduct their own exam. To be clear, you will not be called as an engineer. You will be called a student who has just completed the certification. To be honest, nowadays the competition so tough that even the students who are completing their 4-year degree course, i.e. engineers are struggling to get jobs. Also, the vacancies in this field are generated less in number. So, think that if an engineer applies for the same post you are applying with only one year course, who will get importance?
