Most of the universities conduct entrance examination for candidates seeking admission in engineering degrees. All students who have completed in 12th board or in final year of 10+2 stage with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as a subject are eligible to appear for entrance examination.

NSIT is the only engineering college under Delhi University. It does not have provision for lateral entry admission in 2nd year of B.Tech in mechanical engineering for Diploma holders and B.Sc grads.
