Yes, of course you can take admission in B.Tech through lateral entry. For that, you will have to appear in entrance exam that is LEET conducted by each state university & some deemed university also conducts their own entrance exam.

Lateral entry is normally restricted to within the state. So, if you are domicile of Punjab, then perhaps you can get admission laterally in PTU.

Normally, lateral entry is granted in govt colleges or private colleges but SRM is a university and hence information is not very clear. please contact them directly. I am giving you the link:

The majority of private colleges in many states do offer this facility of lateral entry. You will have to check this with the college.

From different sources, I tried to find out but everybody says this establishment does not give lateral entry. However, if you can check directly with office of VIT, Vellore, it would be better. I am giving link that may be useful:

The best colleges in south offering lateral entry are Indian Maritime University, Hindustan University, KCG college of Technology, St. Peters University, RV College of Engineering-Bangalore, PES University, BMS College of Engineering, etc.
