Here are a few insights to choose branch in engineering:
1. Go for interest, not scope
While we may say that scope for a field keeps changing with time, as we see new trends coming up every few years.
The reality is, every branch has good scope and opportunities if you perform well in it.
2. Branch vs College
It is that time in your life, where you have to choose from a platter.
Whether you choose college A over college B or branch X over branch Y should not be a random decision and instead be based on research on these colleges and the electives they offer under each course.
3. Specialisation is good
Engineering provides an opportunity to specialise.
Choosing one from the various types of engineering disciplines is not an easy job.
Digging deeper and knowing more about every branch can help you in making the right choice.
4. Work life after graduation
It is critical to understand what kind of professional work is expected out of you once you take up a job.
For instance, civil engineering means a lot of field-work and if you are not suited for that, you better not choose civil engineering in the first place.

Options for post graduation
If you aspire to do post graduation, and have some ideas already, it might be a good idea to do a quick check on the opportunities for the post graduation.
For example, if you choose to pursue Bachelors in mechanical engineering, you can do your Masters in robotics, automobile or industrial apart from core mechanical opportunities like manufacturing, etc.

It's good to hear that you have such a high ambition in your career. As you have set your ambition so high, so you should also be aware that you need to work really hard. You should understand the basics of physics, chemistry, mathematics and computers that you will be learning in class 11th and 12th.
You should ensure that your marks are above 80 percent in class 12th board examinations. Along with these, you also need to prepare for competitive exams. Books for preparations for IIT-JEE / AIEEE are easily available in the market. It is recommended that you join a good IIT coaching institute as well. They will help you to understand the concept better. They also take periodic tests which help you analyze how much are you prepared and how much more effort you need to put.
Then, you need to apply and appear for IIT-JEE Mains and IIT-JEE Advanced after completing your class 12th board examination and score good.
I wouldn't recommend dropping a year or so after class 12th board examinations for preparations for competitive entrance examinations.
However, I would also advice you to appear for other entrance examinations as well. This serves as a backup plan if things don't end up as per you had planned. You should also appear for AIEEE and state level examinations (COMEDK for Karnataka, EAMCET for Andhra Pradesh / Telangana, OJEE for Odisha etc.). The more the entrance examinations you appear for, the more options you will have for choosing colleges.
