However, there may be some less competitive branches or some newer IIITs where you can get a chance.3. GFTIs:GTIs have very low cutoffs when compared to NITs and IIITs. With your ST rank, you stand a better chance in some GFTIs. Consider the less popular branches. 4. ST Category Benefits:In favor of the ST category, you would have this available at lower cutoffs, as in most reserved categories. But then, because of such a high CRL, it would again not help in the case of being particularly deemed colleges or branches as having less competition. Conclusion: Though probably atop NITs and IIITs, you might still have a window of opportunity with other NITs, some relatively new IIITs, or perhaps GFTIs - especially in those branches: with higher cutoffs, or those that simply aren't as popular. A watchful eye should be kept on JoSAA counseling regarding specific cutoffs and seat allocations.

Although general trends indicate that a higher rank may not guarantee an admission at the top NITs, it still leaves a fair chance for low-ranked institutes or less competitive branches.Conclusion:The chances are quite bleak if you are looking for one high-ranked NIT for one of the most competitive branches. However, there is still a possibility for you in some not-so-popular branches or in other NITs with lower ranks in the cutoffs. Keep an eye on the official JoSAA counseling process and specifically the cutoffs in different NITs and branches.

That is why you cannot change your category from General to OBC in your JEE Main application form after the JEE Advanced paper. Under the JEE rules, candidates can avail of category change only during the JEE Main correction window but the correction window only opens for 2-3 days. Again, alterations cannot be made once the correction window has been closed.
