Hey Rohan,
Mechanical engg is well established in India whereas automation engg is not that much available nor in demand. It is still picking up in India. However there are universities offering automation also. Finally it depends on your interest which one you consider fine to go for. In my opinion mech will be better option as it will give you more opportunities than automation.

eligibility is 12th passed with maths stream

SRM University and UPES will b3 good options.

The old IITs (Not the fresh ones), BITS Pilani, IT-BHU, IIIT-Hyd, top NITs and a couple of others like DCE/NSIT, UTM Shillong, UPES make up the list.
