Engineering Scope

1- Junior Engineers come under Group C for very freshers having a pay scale of INR 9400 to INR 34800 Grade Pay 4600 and after 3 years of working you will be in Group B but the post will be the same I. e. SSE, the only difference will be in the pay scale incremented by 12 percent.
2- It just sounds good SSE but here nothing has to do about Engineering. The person recruited for these posts only to supervise the technicians (e. g Fitter, Electricians, turners, etc. ). To do work properly, so it is a must that the person supervising has a background of Technical knowledge Of various engineering Departments so named Section Engineering.
3- Promotions in this field is based on Seniority so it can't be guaranteed that you will be promoted just after the 3 years of joining, which usually happens in railways job for the Indian Engineering Service. Promotion could take 5 to 6 years to be a senior in the department and about 10 years to come out from Group B.
4- Indian Engineering Service is a gazetted post. A section engineer needs to spend 10 years to reach these posts having conditions of Seniority in their Department.
5- Indian Engineering Service post does not have any close identities with the freshers of SSE.
6- JE junior engineer cant be promoted to the post of IES throughout his whole career. JE could only be up to SSE or A very senior in a department or Section but no further.
8- Pay Scale-
For SSE: INR 9,400 to INR 34,800
basic pay: INR 9400 having 4600 Grade pay equals INR 14,000 in total basic. DA of basic: 119 percent I. e INR 16,660
HRA: 30 percent of basics for metros cities I. e. INR 4200
TA: for BIKE- 8 rs/km or for CAR- 16rs/km and there are many depends on the performance of individuals like Over time, Night shift allowance, Leave, Gratitude, Risk, etc. Many are there. Total: INR 14000+ INR 16660+ INR 4200+ INR 3000 TA+ INR 2500 - INR 40,300 or usually INR 38000 to INR 39000 (based on the 6th pay commission).
9- Perks: Own a quarter B types, Medicals for self and Dependents, free 1st class Pass for railways travel in a particular route (including Rajdhani, Satabdi, Toronto) 3 in a year for 4 months each, free schooling for children, free clubs, etc. Within Township Not in Open Line. First, a bit of a background. I did my mechanical engineering from a decent state level university college and I got placed into IBM in the final year. Having no other options, I joined IBM after college. But I wanted to work in a field of my engineering background, and so I also took up GATE coaching at ACE Academy. I got a rank of ~4000 in GATE 2016. Since I didnt get into any PSU or IIT with this rank, I had to continue looking for other options, which is when I applied to ISRO. Now, coming to the experience, let me give you an overview of the selection process. There's 2 stages for ISRO recruitment. First is a written exam, 80 questions, 90 minutes. 3 marks for correct answer and a negative mark for each wrong answer. You can look up the syllabus on their website. The board uses the exam as a way to shortlist candidates for the interview. Your selection depends only on your performance in the interview. The candidates are called for the interview in the ratio of around 89 candidates per post. For preparing for the exam I only revised the notes I had prepared for GATE and then went through all previous year question papers. I bought this book which had previous question papers for ISRO and DRDO. (MADE EASY Publications). I felt the ISRO exam requires time management as we had to answer more questions in lesser time for this exam (unlike GATE where time constraint is not felt). To get used to this, I set a timer and wrote the previous exam papers as though I am writing the actual exam. Then I made a list of questions I made mistakes in, and a list of theoretical questions for which I didnt know the answer. Revised these questions again before the exam once. I managed to get 140/240. The cutoff was around 130 I think. I was requested to come to NRSA Hyderabad for the interview. I contacted one of my tutor from ACE academy and requested for help in preparing for the interview. He arranged a mock interview with the senior faculty at ACE. The director of the institute also spoke to me and gave me tips to prepare for the interview. A big thanks to all of them :). The reporting time for the interview was 8 AM. But I was the second last person to be interviewed and my interview happened at 9 PM. Despite the long and boring wait, I went into the interview hall with a lot of energy and a big smile on my face. There were 6 panel members and a chairman. The chairman asked me to explain what I work at IBM (I work on an ERP tool). Then he asked me to explain.

If you are a newcomer, you will have one year of classroom training as a JET (9 months classroom + 3 months plant training), where you will not be paid but will receive a stipend. You'll get a stipend of INR 8,000 per month. After one year of training, you'll be fine enrolling in the company payroll with a basic salary of INR 17,420 per month and taking into account the DA, allowances, bonus, LTA, and so on. Your annual salary would range between INR 4.8 Lacs and INR 5 Lacs. Now if you are an experienced one, the minimum experience required is 3 years, and the more you have experience, the more your yearly fixed increment would be counted. For example, if you have 4 years of experience, your basic salary would be 17,420 plus 525; if you have 5 years of experience, your basic salary would be 17,420 plus 1050; and so on. Hence, your annual package might get affected by an increment of approximately INR 15,000 to INR 20,000 with each year of experience you have. Basic electrical power generation concepts, alternating current, and direct current transmission concepts Models and performance of transmission lines and cables, Economic load dispatch, series & shunt compensation, Electric field distribution & insulators, Distribution systems, Per-unit quantities, bus admittance matrix, Gauss-Seidel, and Newton-Raphson load flow methods, V and F Control, Power Factor Correction, Symmetrical components, Principles of over-current, differential, directional, and distance protection; circuit breakers, System stability concepts, equal area criterion.
5- Control Systems
Modeling and representation of systems, Feedback, TF, Block diagrams, signal flow graphs, Transient and steady-state analysis of LTI systems, Routh-Hurwitz and Nyquist criteria, Bode plots, root loci, lag, lead, & lead-lag compensators; P, PI, PID controllers; Solution of state equations of LTI systems.
