International students are required to submit their English language proficiency test scores to show that they have a specified level of English language ability. To apply for UMBC, you must meet the English language requirements, and applicants must meet the IELTS score to be accepted. However, below are the other English Proficiency tests accepted by the University.  The University asks for an  IELTS, with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and 6.0 in each subtest. The TOEFL iBT requires a total score of 80, with specific minimum scores in writing, speaking, reading, and listening. For the Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, an overall score of 53 is required and 113 in DUOLINGO with no communication skills falling below this level.
