CAT is an exam where students score an enviable 100 percentile as well. It is not essential to get a 100% but then 99 percentile is the score that is the minimum qualifying criteria if you want to get into an IIM.

Since getting into Iims is for a class which has millions of students, the average student is probably a 6 pointer. Well, 15% of IIM Calcutta Batch of 2019 are 6 pointers or worse. So, yes, IIM Calcutta has a lot of average students considering only academics. But, an average student cannot make it to IIM Calcutta.

If you are asking about the MBA- Full Time Course, then the admission criteria is given below.Admission criteria: Selection to the FMS MBA FT course will be based on Personal interviews, Group discussion, and CAT score. Shortlisted candidates of CAT will be called for a Group discussion and Personal interview round. The final selection is based on the cumulative performance of the candidate in the CAT Score as well as the group discussion and personal interview round. So if you graduate with 50% of the aggregate marks, then appear in the CAT exam for admission to an MBA course offered by FMS Delhi.

For Indians students, CAT is the only option. You can try to get admission overseas if you have not taken a CAT exam or try next year.
