The GAT paper for the M.Des programme will be of 120 minutes and will include 120 multiple-choice questions. The questions will be set in English and Hindi the candidate will be able to select their language at the time of filling out the application form. Questions will be asked from the following topics - Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability, Analytical Ability, and GK and Current Affairs. The Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Quantitative Ability sections will each include 30 questions, whereas Analytical Ability will have 20 questions, and GK and Current Affairs will have 15 questions. The candidate must strictly follow the official exam pattern only, as questions will be asked as the given syllabus.

The participating institutes of NIFT are colleges that will offer admission to their design courses on the basis of NIFT scores. The The participating NIFTs offer B.Des, M.Des, B.F.Tech, M.F.Tech, and M.F.M courses.The combined intake for Indian nationals at these institutes stand at 4, 324 seats. The NIFT 2024 participating institutes will not accept scores of other popular entrance exams like NID that, UCEED or SEED for admitting candidates. Currently, there are 18 NIFTs that are participating institutes of NIFT 2024. Admission to these institutes will be on the basis of NIFT 2024 merit rank. Note that NIFT 2024 merit rank will be prepared programme and category-wise for all the participating colleges. Candidates who meet the cut-off criteria only will be allocated seats.

The candidate will be able to select their choice of NIFT 2025 participating institutes (in the order of priority) at the time of filling out the NIFT 2025 counseling registration form.Online registration for NIFT 2025 counseling will start soon after the final results are declared.The counseling registrations for NIFT 2025 will be open to candidates who have qualified in the NIFT 2025 entrance exam.The allotment of seats (or campus) to the B. Des programme will be on the basis of merit rank of the candidate in the NIFT 2025 entrance exam and campus selected. So, candidates who are higher in the NIFT 2025 merit rank will be given preference in the seat allotment.

The Masters programs at NIFT (M. Des, M. F. Tech, and MFM) has a combined intake capacity of 1034 seats. The General Ability Test (GAT) is common for all courses, while candidates seeking admission to the M. Des programme also need to appear in the Creative Ability Test (CAT). The final merit list for admission to the M. Des programme will be prepared by giving weightage to the CAT, GAT and Interview. Meanwhile, the merit list for the M. F. Tech and M. F. M programs will be prepared by considering the performance of the candidate in the GAT and Interview. The candidate can select their programme of study at the time of filling out the NIFT application form. Note that the allotment of seats will be as per the merit rank of the candidate.

The participating institutes of NIFT have a combined seat intake of 4387 seats. Note that there are 19 NIFTs that are participating in NIFT 2025 admission process.Of total seat intake, 4392 seats are reserved for All-India candidates, while there are 445 state-domicile seats. Admission to design courses for Indian nationals will be on the basis of the NIFT exam scores. However, foreign nationals are not required to appear in the entrance exam. Instead, they are eligible for direct admission based on marks of qualifying exam. That being said, both Indian and foreign national need to meet the eligibility criteria for their respective programs to be considered for admission.
