The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering GATE has undergone a significant change in its pattern from the year 2022. The new pattern for the XL paper (Life Sciences) is as follows:
- The XL paper will now be divided into two sections - Section A (General Aptitude) and Section B (Subject Specific). - Section A will contain 10 questions carrying a total of 15 marks, with 5 questions carrying 1 mark each and 5 questions carrying 2 marks each. - Section B will contain 35 questions carrying a total of 70 marks, with 25 questions carrying 1 mark each and 10 questions carrying 2 marks each. - There will be no negative marking for Numerical Answer Type NAT questions, while the Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) will have negative marking of 1/3 marks for 1 mark questions and 2/3 marks for 2 mark questions. - The duration of the exam will be 3 hours. The Geology and Geophysics GATE 2024 exam pattern is as follows:

The GATE 2024 pattern for the Engineering Sciences XE Paper is as follows:
General Aptitude (GA): compulsory, carrying a total of 15 marks. Section A is Engineering mathematics (compulsory): This section contains 11 questions carrying a total of 15 marks. 7 questions carrying 1 mark each (sub-total 7 marks), and 4 questions carrying 2-marks each (sub-total 8 marks). Some questions may have a numerical answer type. Any two of the B to H sections in the XE paper: The choice of two sections from B to H can be made during the examination after viewing the questions. Only two optional sections can be answered at a time.
