Hello dear,
As you have ample time for GATE, so read the reference books for the subjects covered in GATE. Refer 2-3 books for a subjects. Download previous year papers and mark the kind of questions are generally asked in paper. This will show you mirror how much you are preparing for that particular subject. And, important thing have a solid command on 5-6 subjects (Digital electronics, Analog, NAS, Signals & systems, Control system etc.).

GATE forms are available from 1st of September every year and exam in mid-February. 1st of all, you are engineering pursuing or passed out. If you have 3rd year students or final year students, then store all 3-4 years question patterns and watch which section ask more no of questions 2nd thing you which section is good or bad. Focus on that section. If cleared, take coaching.

Books from madeeasy for GATE are quite reliable. You can go for those books. But rather then reading those books if you concentrate in your classes and clear your basic engineering concept clearly it will be more beneficial to you. All the best.

To do so, you need to start preparing from the 3rd year itself. Contribute daily 1-2 hours in 3rd year and in fourth year prepare as much as you can.

I'll suggest you to join the online courses for each and every topic of the syllabus which you are unable to get it and then start preparing form the previous year paper, if you done this much only seriously then you will able to crack the GATE exam easily.
