Geologist

Geology is one of the core stem subjects and a Bachelor's degree will be required at the very minimum for most jobs. In some states and for some jobs (especially where safety issues are concerned - such as in mines) certification may be required to practice. This should not be the case in the overwhelming majority of cases.
Most major colleges and universities offer geology degrees, so you should not struggle to find a relevant course. Even, these are not available at your chosen college, geography or other earth sciences are the preferred options. Students should take minors in mathematics and physics or other earth science options, and IT related subjects. GIS is one example of a growing and required IT skill in geology.
Although, there is a skills shortage, students are advised to study Master's degrees due to the applied science and project work that this would entail. Employers prefer graduates with work experience in their chosen field. Summer schools during Bachelor's degrees are useful too. Doctorates are useful for those, who want to pursue a career in academia, teaching, research or both. They are also advantageous for senior positions such as government advisory roles.

For a geologist to work in a country like ours, we have the option of working for the organizations like Central Ground Water Board and the Geological Survey of India, Coal India, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Mineral Exploration Authority, Hindustan Zinc etc. Among others these are few which offer job opportunities for Geologist with good packages. Defense and other Para- military forces are recruiting Geologist for various purposes. Moreover, the scope of this field is widening because of the growing environmental concerns.
Besides the USA, Australia, Canada, the need for geologists is rising in developing countries. Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, India, , Thailand , Bangladesh require geologists for civil works such as the construction of highways, airports, dams, pipelines etc

Geology is a subject that is considered by many Indian students. The career opportunities available for students who finish their studies in this field are high. Generally, to pursue B.Sc, one needs to score a minimum of 50% marks in 12th with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) from any recognized board. The admission is based on the marks obtained in qualifying exam. The cut off marks varies from year to year.
Geologists is responsible of :
•Finding enough supplies of natural resources
•Develop natural resources in such a way that it doesn't harm the environment
•Conserve soil and maintain the productivity of agriculture
•Understand patterns of the climate
