Geology is one of the core stem subjects and a Bachelor's degree will be required at the very minimum for most jobs. In some states and for some jobs (especially where safety issues are concerned - such as in mines) certification may be required to practice. This should not be the case in the overwhelming majority of cases.
Most major colleges and universities offer geology degrees, so you should not struggle to find a relevant course. Vacancies varies each year in Central and State Governments. There is no quota system subject or degree wise in UPSC or MPSC. If Defence is your target area why do not you appear for CDS conducted by UPSC to become Commissioned Officer in Indian Army.

For a geologist to work in a country like ours, we have the option of working for the organizations like Central Ground Water Board and the Geological Survey of India, Coal India, Oil & Natural Gas Corporation, Mineral Exploration Authority, Hindustan Zinc etc. Among others these are few which offer job opportunities for Geologist with good packages. Hi Dhaval,
Geology is a subject that is considered by many Indian students. The career opportunities available for students who finish their studies in this field are high. Generally, to pursue B.Sc, one needs to score a minimum of 50% marks in 12th with Science (Physics, Chemistry, Maths) from any recognized board. The admission is based on the marks obtained in qualifying exam. The cut off marks varies from year to year.
