Yes its a good career . Its a domain which involves the programming and coding skill in combination with design and 3D CG asset creation knowledge . More over maximum of the companies prefer to hire a person who has a lot of exposure to games , so basically you must have played a lot of games and must have passion for it.
I;m not sure what is your academic background , but what is needed is programming and coding knowledge + design & 3D software knowledge , preferably in softwares like Maya/ Max / z-bruch / mu box etc.
