The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) was set up to cater to the needs of a mixed group of learners up to pre-degree level. The NIOS Class 12 subjects are categorized into six groups: Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, and Group F. All the language subjects are included in Group A. Aspirants must have completed their 10+2 from a recognised board. Some colleges also specify that aspirants should have secured a minimum of 50% aggregate marks at 10+2 level. Some colleges also offer 5% marks relaxation in this criteria for SC/ ST candidates.
