However, a test score above 5.5 is basic minimum requirement. A better IELTS Band score shall increase the chances for acceptance of your application. You need an IELTS score of Band 6.5 or above to be admitted to an undergraduate programme. However, you must have an IELTS band score of 7.0 or higher if you want to enrol in a top UK university.

You will be given a score from 1 to 9 for each part of the test – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. The average produces your overall band score. You can score whole (e.g., 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (e.g., 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test . The IELTS score is calculated by averaging the scores from the four sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking. Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark. Scores out of 40 are converted to the IELTS 9-band scale. Scores are reported in whole and half bands.

Candidates should note that both TOEFL and IELTS are English language tests that have been designed for the benefit of students wanting to study in English speaking country abroad. These English proficiency tests will examine the English proficiency skills of the applicant and inform the university whether the candidate is fit for the curriculum. Hence, both exams have been created at par with each other.

If you meet specific alternative English language requirements, you can apply to the University of East London (UEL) without having an IELTS score. Additionally, if English is widely spoken in a country, applicants from that country might not be required to provide proof of English language proficiency. UEL may accept other standardised examinations, such as the TOEFL or PTE, or it may provide its own English language assessments. To find out if other poss
