Go for IIIT Sri City. It is better than IIIT Kancheepuram. I am studying in IIIT Kancheepuram, and it is totally based on design concept. It is also a good college, but Sri City is better for CSE.

You can go for NIT-Warangal, Raipur and Calicut.
All these are very good options.

For mining branch, the on-campus placements are very low, it's less than 30% and even low for the batches I saw. None of my friends from Mining department got placed in the campus and many of them have pointer 8.5+. Later, they got jobs through off-campus placements, that's a different story.

Go for the branch in which you are interested. Think about the college after that. You have to learn that for 4 years. If you choose any non-interesting branch, then you can't do good. Go for interest, not for placements. Don't worry about new or old. You can apply for jobs outside also. So, choose the branch first.
Best of luck.

I'd recommend you to visit:
https://josaa.nic.in/josaaorcrarchieve/Result/OpeningClosingRankArchieveN.aspx?Year=2017
and check the previous year's OBC cutoff's there and you would definitely get a good idea of your selection. Also, take care of important dates of the counselling.

Well, if we consider all the colleges in Karnataka, then NITK will be the de-facto #1. Other noteworthy mentions would include IIIT, Bangalore and MIT (Manipal, not Massachusetts.). If Masters/Doctoral courses are included as well, then, there is the one and only, IISc Bangalore.
