I don't think you stand a chance of getting into top six IIMs with 85 percentile. For general category students the cutoff goes as high as 98 percentile. However if you from non-engineering background, the cutoff are slightly lower. I would suggest that you give your best shot at CAT and not worry about cutoff now. Higher you score, better chances you have of qualifying.

I am not sure I understood your question correctly. If you want to understand CAT cutoff, it varies for different institutes, different categories and different background. For example an engineering male graduate from general category at IIM Ahmedabad would have to secure 99.5% percentile to merit an interview call. Whereas for a female commerce graduate it might be around 97 percentile. In short, you should give your best and secure as much marks as you can. Higher marks usually gives you an advantage during interview. All other things are externalities that you can not control.

Yeah it is worthwhile to do your MBA. MBA offers you several advantages including really good salary hike compared to just engineering. It offers you a good glimpse of corporate world. MBA will not be a typical bookish study, it will be a comprehensive package where you will be working on real life case studies and projects. A lot of your classmates will have some work experience as well, which will give you firsthand experience of those companies and industries. To summarize, at the end of an MBA, you will be your better and polished self. I would recommend that you take this option seriously.

Hello dear, besides 97 plus percentile in cat, u need to have a decent academic record from class 10th to the last academic degree. For gd/pi round u need to have a good communication skill, analytical ability, decision making power, self knowledge and convincing quality. Work experience will be an extra advantage. All the best. Thank you.
