Hello Manish
The overall cut-off for MDI for 2017 admissions was around 95% (please note that this is just the cut-off for shortlisting to GDPIWAT round) but you have to really perform well in the GDPIWAT round in that case.

The admissions in IIMs are based on percentile obtained in Common Admission test (A Management Entrance Test). The academic performance, Group discussion, Personal Interview, Work experience and Extra curricular activities are the other parameters considered in selection of the candidates. For admission point of view you have to obtain at lest 98 percentile in CAT exam. While the minimum cutoff is above 80 percentile. In academic performance, the marks are given according to the percentage obtained in class 10th, class 12th and in graduation. Hence, you are not getting the full marks for your academic performance.

That said, the general picture is that Iims prefer a well rounded personality - viz, you have to be excellent in your acads as well as in other co-curricular activities. As you can see from the above a CGPA of less than 6 would fetch you a very low rating. So, its difficult, but not impossible.

Data suggests that if you're a candidate with less than 80% marks in class 10th and/or class 12th, and/or less than 60% marks in graduation, chances of you making it to IIM Ahmedabad are significantly lower than the rest of the applicants.
