Yes, GDPI takes place in some, but not all, of the top colleges in Maharashtra. Let me just list down these colleges which conduct GDPI, followed by those which do not,

5. Shailesh Mehta(IIT Mumbai)
6. KJ Somaiya(SIMSR; PGDM program)
7. Welingkar(PGDM)
Now, those which do not conduct GDPI:-
1. JBIMS
2. Sydenham(SIMSREE)
3. SIMSR(MMS)
4. Welingkar(MMS)
5. NL Dalmia(MMS)

There are bound to be differing opinions. But I am of the firm belief that few years of work experience makes a student much better to receive what IIM's have to offer. Hence I would wholeheartedly endorse your suggestion.

Anyone who scores at least 50% aggregate marks in his/her graduation is eligible to give the CAT exam, and thereby, appear for IIM's interview rounds (provided all the required cut-offs are met).

Its should be above 85 percentile to get into new IIMs and above 89-90 percentile to get into older IIMs.

IIMA does not provide MBA in aviation management. The General Management Programme for Aerospace and Aviation Executives (GMAE) is offered by IIM Bangalore.

Scholarship Package:
The Aditya Birla Scholarships cover a large part of the academic fee as well as the hostel fee for the IITs /BITS and some part of the tuition fee for the management and law streams.
The scholarship amount for IIMs/XLRI is Rs. 1,75,000 per annum.
For IIT / BITS (Pilani): Rs 65,000 per annum.
For law: Rs. 1,80,000 per annum or the actual fee.
Whichever is lower.
Eligibility:
Students from the following institutes can apply for the Scholarships:
IIM-Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Kolkata, Lucknow, Indore, Kozhikode and Shillong.

You have good chances to get GDPI call from IIMs, definately from new IIMs.
