No specified text books. Only you need to keep update yourself with the current affairs and general knowledge. READ NEWSPAPER DAILY. Try some magazines like Frontline, India today, Outlook and get regular with them as they have the complete detailed, analyzed reports by the experts. Usually newspaper doesn't have that much time to do a brief research on a topic and print it by the next day. The information related to minimum marks in class 12th to apply for IIMC is not given anywhere with best of my knowledge. You have to clear written exam, after that crack GD & then crack interview.

ELIGIBILITY:
The candidate must have completed graduation from a recognised university.
ADMISSION PROCESS:
Written test: Eligible candidates need to appear for the written test conducted by the college.
Group Discussion & Personal Interview (GDPI): Shortlisted candidates will be called for Group Discussion/Personal Interview or both based on the score obtained in written test.

If you are passionate and interested in journalism field then you can for sure go for it. IIMC is the most renowned college for journalism and it had its own eligibility criteria for student's selection.
But IIMC does not provide with the under graduate courses in journalism it only offers post-graduation and Diploma courses. For getting admission for the same, IIMC conducts an entrance exam and then on the basis of rank scored the student gets admission at any IIMC campus.

When you say that your are not good with general knowledge you cut your possible career chances by half. I mean, without a good general awareness, who will like a media person. Please do not think that without GK it is possible to make a respectful career in media. Another question you have is about PCKlM and then media or mass communication and the preparation plan for IIMC. Improve your English language skills and your vocabulary. Mass communication field knowledge is necessary.
