I would say that a comprehensive plan in studies will help you reach your target. The time table for the study plan should be in tune with your daily needs and schedule. As far as the preparation is concerned, I would suggest you to spend quality time everyday at reading journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. And for GK, you can refer Competition Success Review for updates on current affairs. You may also refer the following books:

IIMC does not offer any Bachelors course. It only offers post graduate courses in various media avenues. IIMC is one of the most premium colleges in India for mass communication. Having a degree or Diploma from IIMC will add value to your resume and gives you a credibility as a preferred employee. IIMC's placement cell is also very active and students have been placed in all reputed media organisations. As far as a college is concerned, I would say, go by the reputation and placement records of the institute. If in Kolkata, you can go for B.Sc in media science in lead. It is same as mass communication but will give you more knowledge about the media industry.

I feel sorry to inform you that IIMC only offers PG courses. So, I would suggest that yu should do mass communication from IP University. It is a good option in which you can decide your specification for post graduation from IIMC like PG in advertising marketing, PG in film making, PG in journalism/ PR, etc.
