The answer is both yes and no. Candidates seeking admission to BTech at IIT Gandhinagar are expected to qualify both JEE Main and JEE Advanced and further go through JoSAA counselling to secure admission. However, getting final admission only on the basis of JEE Main score, is not possible. Additionally, to be eligible for the BTech programme, candidates must have passed their Class 12 with 75% aggregate. Hence, while JEE Main is the most important starting point to get into IIT Gandhinagar for the glagship programme, it is not the only criteria for it.

Before knowing the cutoff, students must understand the difference between admission and qualifying cutoff of GATE. the exam qualifying cutoff is the institute eligibility cutoff while the GATE admission cutoff ensures a call for admission at IITs, NITs, IIITs, and CFTIs. Yes, non-GATE applicants willing to get into M.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar are required to appear for the institute level entrance test. However, all candidates are required to appear for the Personal Interview round for final selection. In addition to this, BTech graduates from the IITs with CGPA/ CPI of 8.0 or above (on a scale of 10) are eligible to get admission to M.Tech at IIT Gandhinagar without GATE. Other than GATE or the criteria state above, candidates are required to be a pass in BE/ BTech/ MSc or equivalent in appropriate branches with a minimum of 55% aggregate or 5.5 on a 10-point scale (50% aggregate for SC /ST). For 2023, cut off was 12299 for General category candidates in All India quota for BTech in Materials Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar - Indian Institute of Technology. For female candidates in General category under All India quota, 15607 was the closing rank. BTech cut off varies depending on the category and domicile/quota of the applicant.

The year 2023 cutoff ranks for Integrated M.Tech in Electrical Engineering at IIT Gandhinagar - Indian Institute of Technology other than General category are - 2271 for OBC, 1703 for SC, 681 for ST, and 763 for EWS. While the admissions are based on the scores/rank obtained in JEE Advanced, the last cut offs also change a lot depending on All India quota or Home State. It also varies if the applicant is a female.

The cutoff trend for BTech at IIT Gandhinagar - Indian Institute of Technology has been decreasing in the recent years. In 2022, the closing rank for BTech. under General category for all India quota was 4127. In 2023, it decreased to 3962. Likewise, the cut off ranks have changed from 1904 to 2143 for OBC, 1144 to 1461 for SC, 652 to 584 for ST, and 809 to 719 for EWS. This trend is likely to continue in the coming years, as the demand for Engineering education in India continues to grow. Similar cut off trend can be seen for female candidates under all categories however the ranks are slightly different.
