Yes, there is a probability of getting admission in IIT Kanpur for BTech if your rank is around 5000. However, it will depend on the branch of engineering you are applying for B.Tech on which department your interested. Since, the cut offs keep changing for different departments from round to round, therefore better ranks definitely increases your chances of getting admission in IIT Kanpur.

IIT Kanpur accepts GATE scores for admission to the M.Tech course. As per the GATE COAP round 1 cutoff, the most competitive course was Microelectronics and VLSI with a closing rank of 935 for the General AII India category students. So, to secure a seat in IIT Kanpur, candidates must secure more than 900 for General AI category. The closing rank of round one for the IIT Kanpur BSc Statistics and Data Science course for the year 2023 through the JEE Advanced was 1,090 while on another hand the closing rank of last round for the BSc Statistics and Data Science course was 1,090.

The closing rank of round one for the IIT Kanpur BSc Economics course for the year 2023 through the JEE Advanced was 3,242 while on another hand the closing rank of last round for the BSc Economics course was 3,653.

IIT Kanpur - Indian Institute of Technology will release 6 rounds of JEE Advanced cutoffs for admission to B.Tech. The cutoffs will be released on a rolling basis, and the seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
