The sole accepted application method is online. Unreserved/OBC/EWS/Transgender candidates must pay a non-refundable application fee of Rs. 1000, while SC/ST/PwD/Women applicants must pay Rs. 500.Then only he or she  can get  admission into PhD programme.

IIT Kharagpur was established in 1951 and is ranked five by NIRF (National Institutional Ranking Framework) 2023 under the Research category. It is a public/government institute, hence the fee for various courses is not very high. Even if the students find the fee a little high, they can apply for the scholarships provided by the college. The scholarships are limited so apply as soon as possible. Students must remember that admission will only be possible if the candidate meets the eligibility criteria. IIT Kharagpur library collection consists of back-volumes of periodicals, books, theses, conference proceedings, reports, standards,   microforms, CD-ROM/DVD-ROM Databases, and various audiovisual materials. The Library has a collection of more than 3.5 Lacs documents, several abstracting databases, and others. Besides, there are more than 2 Lacs e-books. The library has two buildings, the main building, and the other building. Theses, books, and standards are kept in the main building.
