IIT Madras have great Hostel facilities for students for a comfortable and focused living environment. Each student has their own cot, table and chair, almirah, and all necessary electrical facilities, including high-speed internet through a LAN port and Wi-Fi. The hostel also features a common room with a TV, table tennis, pool, and foosball tables. For those who enjoy outdoor activities there is also a courtyard that can be used as a football or cricket ground, as well as separate basketball and badminton courts.

IIT Madras conducts an annual fest called Shaastra. It is an annual technical festival organised to celebrate unconstrained thinking and love for the spirit of engineering. Another cultural festival organised by IIT Madras is Saarang, It is the largest cultural fest in India held every year in the month of January.
