IIT Roorkee - Indian Institute of Technology

IIT Roorkee under its Department of Management Studies (DOMS) offers a two-year MBA programme across five specialisations. It is a full-time residential programme which is divided into eight terms. MBA admission at IIT Roorkee is offered based on CAT score, followed by the performance of candidates in the PI round. However,  JEE Advanced-qualified IIT Graduates with CGPA 7 or above on a 10-point scale are exempted from the initial shortlisting process and are directly called for the PI round. The selection criteria is divided into two caregories:Category-1  (Graduates applying on the basis of CAT score) - CAT score: 60%, PI: 30%, Work experience: 10%Category-2  (IIT graduates admitted through JEE Advanced) - PI: 100%Based on the above distribution the candidates are selected for MBA programme.

IIT Roorkee offers a four-year BTech programme across 11 specialisations along with a five-year integrated BTech + MTech programmes across two specialisations. The BTech course is the flagship programme of IIT Roorkee. The selection of candidates for the IIT Roorkee BTech programme is based on their JEE Advanced score. To be eligible for the same, aspirants must have completed their Class 12 with a valid score. The centralised counselling process is managed and regulated by the JoSAA, based on which the candidates are allotted seats. In order to apply for BTech and Integrated MTech at IIT Roorkee, students are required to apply via JEE Main, followed by JEE Advanced. The process of applying for JEE Mains 2024 consists of three steps: registration, form filling, and document upload, followed by payment of application fees.

Under the Free Messing scheme, a student can avail of a free messing (only basic menu) facility and a pocket allowance of INR 250 per month. Such students are also exempted from payment of hostel room rent. In case a student does not seek free messing, he/she gets a pocket allowance of INR 1,000 per month. To avail Free Messing scheme, a student is expected to fulfil the following conditions:Applicant belongs to SC or ST category.The applicant is a student of BTech, BArch, Integrated Dual Degree (IDD), Integrated Master of Technology (IMT), Integrated Master of Science (IMS), and BS-MS programmes admitted through JEE (Advanced) or MSc programmes admitted through JAM.The Gross Income of parents (Father and Mother or Guardian) during the previous financial year is not more than INR 5 LPA.

In the Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme, a student gets his/her tuition fee waived as per the following criteria.Full Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to the most economically backward students having a family income of less than INR 1 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment year.2/3 Tuition Fee Waiver– Offered to economically backward students having a family income in the range of INR 1 LPA to INR 5 LPA during the previous financial year or current assessment yearThe Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme is available only for the normal duration of the programme. For dual degree programmes, it is available only up to the 4th year.

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Mohali is an autonomous public institution. IISER Mohali was established in 2007 and is well known for its Postgraduate and Doctoral courses. IISER Mohali has been ranked 50 by NIRF 2023 among the top Research Institutes in India. The Institute offers Integrated PhD, PhD and BS-MS Dual Degree programmes. The flagship programme of IISER Mohali is BS-MS Dual Degree. The placement report for the 2023 drive is not released as of now. However, the NIRF report 2023 is out. According to the report, 3 BSc students were placed during IISER Mohali placements 2022. Further, the median package offered to BSc students was INR 8 LPA.IIT Roorkee is accredited by NAAC and is approved by AICTE and UGC. Established in 1847, IIT Roorkee is the seventh IIT recognised as an Institution of National Importance. It is a public-technical research university located in Uttarakhand. It is the oldest technical institution in Asia that was given university status in 1949. The university offers 14 undergraduate (UG), 24 postgraduate (PG), and various other PhD courses to the students through its school, and 23 departments across the fields of Engineering, Science, Architecture, Management, and Social Sciences. As per the placement report, the institute has achieved a 100% placement rate during the MBA placement drive of 2023. The highest package offered stood at INR 27.94 LPA.From the above-mentioned information, candidates can choose between IISER Mohali and IIT Roorkee.
