IIT Ropar has been ranked 22 in the Engineering category by NIRF Ranking 2023. Graduates of this college get the status of IIT alumni. During its 2023 placements, average package offered to BTech students stood at INR 20.99 LPA and INR 13.31 LPA to the PG candidates. The campus has academic, residential, sports, training and career development, and transportation. Additionally, the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar has a medical center that has a dedicated team of medical and paramedical staff. Students requiring immediate yet basic medical attention can be directed to the medical center. According to the placement statistics, the highest placement for IIT Ropar was INR 50 LPA whereas for IIT Mandi it is INR 60 LPA. Moreover, when it comes to the total no of students placed during placements 2023, 252 students were placed for IIT Ropar and 249 students have been placed for IIT Mandi. Now when it comes to the comparison for NIRF 2023 ranking statistics, IIT Ropar has been ranked 22 in the Engineering category whereas IIT Mandi has been ranked 33. On the basis of these facts, it is easy to conclude both colleges have almost similar placement and ranking statistics.

The foundation stone for the permanent IIT Ropar permanent campus was laid in 2009, but it was in June 2019, that IIT Ropar completely shifted to its permanent campus located in Rupnagar, Punjab. In the past, IIT Ropar operated from two transit campuses located in Ropar itself. The permanent campus is spread over 525 acres and is well-equipped with numerous on-campus facilities.

IIT Ropar offers nearly 27 courses at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels. At the undergraduate level, the Indian Institute of Technology–Ropar (IIT–Ropar) offers four to five-year BE/BTech in seven specializations. At the postgraduate level, the institute offers two to five-year ME/MTech in seven specializations and a two-year MSc in three specializations.

IIT Ropar offers admission to its four-year BTech course through a valid score in JEE followed by JoSAA counseling. Candidates can apply for the respective exams and after clearing the examination, proceed with the seat allotment process. The seat allotment process is done through a computerized process called the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates are allotted seats based on their rank, preferences, and availability of seats. The candidates who are allotted seats will have to report to the allotted institute for document verification and to confirm their seats.

The institute offer UG, PG, and Doctoral courses through its different departments. There are 14 departments of study at IIT Ropar namely Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Materials, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Humanities, and Social Sciences.

IIT Ropar offers two-year MSc courses in three streams, namely Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Additionally, the fee for the IIT Ropar MSc course is INR 62.74 K.
