The MTech course is offered in various branches at IIT Ropar: Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Biomedical Engineering. To get admission to IIT Ropar the candidates have to take the GATE exam and clear it. GATE is a national-level entrance examination for admission to postgraduate engineering programmes at IIT Ropar. The exam tests the comprehensive understanding of various undergraduate subjects in Engineering and Technology. GATE score is valid for three years and the scorecard is widely accepted by various institutes and organisations for admission and recruitment purposes. After the GATE examination, the CCMT counselling is conducted for admission to M.Tech courses in IIT Ropar, and the final step is COAP counselling.

The total tuition fee of the BTech programme is INR 8 Lacs at IIT Ropar. Average package of BTech students after the completion of the BTech course was INR 20.99 LPA in placement 2023. The placement rate was 82.21% for the BTech programme. Considering the total tuition fee, placement percentage and the package secured this seems to be a good return on the investment.
