No, you cannot take a correspondence course (also known as distance education) for a BTech degree at IITs or NITs  (or any other reputable institute in India) because the Supreme Court of India has ruled that BTech programs require extensive practical training, which is difficult to achieve effectively through pure distance learning. IIT Bhilai is ranked 81 for Engineering by NIRF 2023. Considered under the top 100 eminent institutes in the country for Engineering education, the cutoffs are comparatively higher. In JoSAA Round 6 of 2024, BTech CSE was the top course with the highest cutoff score of 5932. For other courses, such as Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, the cutoff score stood at 6732 in the R-6. Hence, it is true that it is little difficult to get into IIT Bhilai. However, with the right preparation and study strategy, it is never impossible to achieve the goal.

Not only do your board exam results matter, but also your JEE Main and JEE Advanced scores determine your eligibility for admission to IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. To be eligible, you must, however, have received at least a 75% (65% for SC/ST applicants) in your 12th board test, or rank in the top 20 percentile of your local board. Your WBCHSE score of 280 out of 500, or 56%, would not meet this requirement.
