IITs or Indian Institute of Technology are world-wide recognised as premier institutions of India. The institutes are recognised for offering world-class education. IITs are very competitive and only 1 or 2 % of the total applicants make it to the institute.  In 2023, more than 1.8 lakh (1,80,372 in total) students appeared for JEE Advanced and only 43,769 qualified it. Generally, IITs are considered to be an edge above the College of Engineering, Anna University (CEG) in terms of several factors. IITs have a larger pool of highly qualified faculty with research experience and international collaborations. CEG: While a well-respected institution, its reputation is primarily within Tamil Nadu. However, IIT's majors are allotted according to the candidate's score/percentile. Also, the University of Cambridge accepts applicants on the basis of their overall profile. No, you can't get a government college with an 849000 rank in JEE MAINS, especially for popular branches like Computer Science Engineering (CSE) or Electrical Engineering (EE). You should try for private colleges. If you have any reservations, like if you belong to SC/ST category then you can look for some GFTIs.
