No, it's not true. It actually depends on the recognition of the private colleges.
There are many good private universities where the placements are too good and they are at par with the IITs too.
Studying in IITs would make you gain an additional reputation as they are of high standards. You can also gain equal reputation if you study in a top private college.
The basic difference will be in fee structure and the method of teaching.
Choose a college by its rankings, accreditation, faculty, placements and reviews.

There are a large number of similarities between the curriculum of both MBA and PGDM. An MBA institute follows a fixed curriculum as it will be based on the university guidelines which occasionally may not be aligned to industry requirements. Autonomous institutes do not follow university standards, so it is have the flexibility to align its curriculum according to industry standards and change in the business environment. You can go to IITs only after completing 10+2 and IITs don't offer a course in information technology but they offer computer science engineering. IT is just one aspect of application of computers. As such applications are adequately studied in CSE and EE programs they don't offer a separate course. You may opt for CSE from top IITs. To do so, you need to have PCM for sure as you need to secure a good rank in JEE main and advanced exams. Then you can take computer science with PCM.

The admission into IITs is based on the rank secured in JEE main and advanced. In that exam the questions are asked from PCM only.
So you need to have PCM for sure.
If you plan to do software engineering or computer science engineering, etc. you need to opt for computer science besides PCM and if you want to do biotechnology, genetic engineering, etc. then opt for biology with PCM.
However, you can appear for the exam only with PCM as it is mandatory for any engineering course.
