It seems from your rank that you were in waiting list if you are taking admission you should opt for IMU Kolkata otherwise the colleges are not so good. IMU Kolkata being the government college will be fine otherwise you should go for private college like Tolani but before making any decision gather some information about colleges and their placements. In my opinion you must visit the college once and take view of scenario there. You might have a chance in more reputed colleges if you have any reservation criteria else give it a try. You should try for Coimbatore, don't think about B.Tech, as your rank is very poor, if you have any other option other than CET, go for it. Give any college after Chennai or Visakhapatnam for your preference, You might have a chance if you have any reservation criteria else give it a try. You have very great chance to GET into this institute with this rank. Attend the counselling and choose your options appropriately. Try Shiksha college predictor for better analysis.

You should choose which course you're taking the test for. There is B.Sc and DNS in nautical science, BE in marine engineering, naval architecture, and few MBA programs. The first two will lead you to work on ship out at sea. The latter ones will get you office jobs somewhere.
