n order to become an Income tax officer you need to apply for the Indian Revenue Services exam which is also known as IRS. The other way is to give a Staff Selection Commission Exam. To be eligible for the exam you should have completed a Graduation Degree from any stream from a recognised university. The age should be between 18 years to 27 years. 3 years age relaxation for the OBC and 5 years age relaxation for the SC/ST Candidate. The notification of the exam is issued every year in the month of April. You can find the notification in the Rozgar Samachar / Employment Newspaper, Gazette of India and other leading newspapers. Fill the application form and send it to the regional centre as mentioned in the notification. The exam is conducted in 3 levels:Prelim ExamMain ExamInterview.

To become an Income Tax Officer, one should first of all enter the Income Tax Department as Income Tax Inspector or Tax Assistant. Then, they can get promotion to the designation of Income Tax Officer after qualifying the departmental examination. First step required for joining as Income Tax Inspector or Tax Assistant is to qualify Combined Graduate Level examination. After that, there is personal interview for Income Tax Inspector post and, there is skill test for Tax Assistant post. Interested aspirants can apply for All India Level competitive exam either online or offline. Educational requirements - Aspirants who want to appear for the written examination should complete their graduation (any discipline) from any University/College approved by University Grants Commission (UGC). Age requirements - Maximum age limit specified to apply for the written examination is 27 years while minimum age limit is 18 years. Upper age relaxation of 3 years will be given for OBC candidates while 5 years will be given for SC/ST candidates.

In order to become an income tax officer, you should get into Indian Revenue Service. To get into IRS, you need to clear your civil service examination which is conducted by UPSC. The eligibility criterion for the examination is graduation from a recognised University. The candidate must be of 21-30 years of age. The Civil Service Examination comprises of an aptitude test (CSAT), a main examination and personality test.The aptitude test comprises of sections like Comprehension, Interpersonal skills, Logical reasoning and analytical ability, Basic numeracy and data interpretation. The main exam has questions related to current affairs, History, Geography, Indian Politics, Economic and Social development, and General Science. The interview is conducted to assess a candidate's intelligence, abilities, traits and values.
