There can be a few possible reasons for IIT Delhi's ranking decline in the recent years of QS World Rankings. One possibility is that the institute has not been able to keep pace with the rising standards of other top universities around the world. IIT Delhi is listed as the 197th best university in the world as per the QS World University Rankings 2024. The institute is ranked 46th in the Asia University Rankings and 151-200 in the Engineering and Technology (Engineering) category. The QS World University Rankings are based on several variables, such as academic standing, employer standing, faculty-to-student ratio, number of citations per faculty, and proportion of foreign students. IIT Delhi was also ranked 717 by the US News Rankings 2022.

The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi is one of the seven institute of technology established in India as centers of excellence for advanced education, scientific research, and technological development in Delhi. It is one of the best public institutes in New Delhi. Accroding to the QS World University Rankings 2024, it is placed #197. As per the report by QS WUR Ranking by Subject it stands on #39. The QS Sustainability Ranking is #=426 and the Asian University Ranking is #2.

For over the last 5 years, IIT Delhi has maintained to stay in the top 3 best Engineering institutes in the country. Battling with IIT Madras and IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi is said to be better than these two in many ways including infrastructure, academics, placements, facilities, etc. When it comes to its MBA programme, IIT Delhi ranks 4 after the top 3 IIMs Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Calcutta, whereas IIT Bombay and IIT Madras are positioned at 10 and 11 ranks, respectively. Hence making IIT Delhi the only IIT in the league of the IIMs for its MBA programme.
