There is no difference for student studying in NIT and other studying in IIT.There is only thinking that go for IIT only.There are NIT'S which are far better than some IIT like NIT Allahabad it ranks above some reputed IITs.So don't let your career fix to IIT only if you are getting a good NIT go for it.

There is no provision for direct entry of International students in IITs. The Joint Admission Board (JAB) of IITs have recently decided that students from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, Maldives, Singapore, the UAE and Ethiopia will be allowed to directly appear for the JEE (advanced) test, skipping the JEE (main) that Indian students have to take to become eligible for appearing in JEE(advanced) for seeking admission in IITs.
