IIIT Delhi is a governement institute. Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, usually referred to as IIIT Delhi or IIIT-D, is a state-level institution that was founded in 2008 and had its inaugural class of 60 students. The University Grants Commission has recognised the institute's main campus, which is situated in Okhla (UGC).In addition, IIIT Delhi holds a "A" grade of accreditation from the NAAC and is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The Delhi government provides funding for the institute and guarantees academic and administrative independence. IIT (Indian Institute of Technology), Delhi which was established as College of Engineering in 1961is now the Institution of National Importance and is amongst the twenty-three IITs created to be Centres of Excellence.
