Sketching and rendering is definitely important for Industrial design. Sketching is one of the main topics covered during the course of study in design. Rendering is one of the methods used to make a sketch or photograph/picture more prominent. There are many nuances of rendering and sketching which students have to familiarize themselves with. This takes a lot of patience and skill, however, can be learnt over a period of time. Regards.
