I come from the same combination of background, it's going to be fantastic. Industry prefers this combo of mechanical engineering + industrial design (especially when it's about making / manufacturing a tangible product). So, don't worry, just go ahead.

Industrial design is the part of product design that focuses on the design of products that are produced in an industrial way (eg mass-produced in factories). Product design also includes for example digital products such as websites and apps

They are not three different streams. Automobile and product design are the sub-streams of industrial design. There are many sub-streams of ID like product design, textile design, ceramic and glass design, furniture and interior design, transportation and automobile design.
