IPMAT Pattern

The IPMAT (Integrated Program in Management Aptitude Test) conducted by IIM Rohtak has a sectional time limit for each of its three sections. The exam consists of 40 questions in each section – Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning, and Verbal Ability. The total duration of the exam is 120 minutes, and each section has a specific time limit of 40 minutes. This means that candidates need to manage their time efficiently, allocating 40 minutes to solve the questions in each of the three sections. Each question carries 4 marks, and there is a negative marking of 1 mark for every incorrect answer. All the questions in IPMAT are Multiple-Choice Question (MCQ)-based, assessing candidates on logical reasoning, aptitude, and English proficiency skills.

To choose candidates for its highly sought-after five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), the Indian Institute of Management Indore (IIM Indore) administers the Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test (IPMAT). One of the most popular tests for students hoping to go straight into management school following high school is the IPMAT. As the IPMAT 2024 approaches, candidates hoping to get admission to this esteemed programme must comprehend the format of the test. In the IPMAT AT, a correct answer carries four points, whereas a wrong answer has a one-mark penalty (negative marking). Negative marks are not applied to questions that are not attempted. 

The IPMAT exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Management, Indore. The exam is conducted once every year for admission to the five year integrated programme in management. The exam is conducted in the computer-based test mode or online mode every year. The complete IPMAT admission process is online. Students who have filled the IPMAT application form online on the official website will be required to appear for the online exam on the designated exam centre. The students need to reach the exam centre in order to take the online test. For the multiple-choice questions, students will be required to select the radio button on the computer screen against the correct answer and for the short-answer type questions, students will be required to type in their answers on the answer tupple given on the screen.

The exam pattern for IPMAT is as follows: Section 1: Verbal Ability: This section tests the candidate's English language skills. It consists of 50 MCQs. It consists of 25 MCQs and the second part of this section carries 25 short answer type questions. The section tests the candidate's knowledge of topics such as Arithmetic, Algebra Geometry, Trigonometry etc. For each correct answer, candidates will be awarded four marks each and for every incorrect answer, one mark will be deducted from the overall score. This means, if the candidate has got ten correct answers, then, he/she will be awarded 40 marks in the total score. The IPMAT question paper has sectional timing of 40 minutes per section which the students must adhere to. 

The medium of IPMAT question paper is English. The structure of the IPMAT exam has not changed from the past few years. The latest IPMAT question paper structure is as follows:The IPMAT exam will be conducted in the computer-based test. The duration of the exam is 120 minutes (2 hours).The exam consists of 100 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and Short-Form Questions carrying four marks each.The questions are from two different sections, namely Verbal Ability and Quantitative Aptitude. The QA section is divided into two parts.There is a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer. The total marks for the exam are 100.The detailed section-wise exam pattern is as follows:Verbal Ability: This section tests the candidate's English language skills. It consists of 50 MCQs. The section tests the candidate's understanding of topics such as Grammar, Vocabulary, Reading Comprehension, etc.Quantitative Aptitude: This section tests the candidate's Quantitative Aptitude. IPMAT is a speed-based test which is designed to assess a candidate's quantitative aptitude skills and command over English comprehension. It may sound tough, but these are the skills which we are taught in school so there is nothing new to learn. What is required is to learn these subjects at a slightly advanced level. All you will need is to brush up on the basics and practice the concepts on advance level problems. Applicants should solve previous years question papers, attempt an ample number of mock tests and be consistent to score well in the IPMAT exam. Having said that, the preparation for the IPMAT exam requires focus, dedication and diligence. If you can do that, despite being an average student, you can crack the IPMAT exam easily. A good preparation strategy can help you crack the IPMAT exam with a good score. Generally, the toughest section of the IPMAT question paper is Quantitative Aptitude (Short Answers). But with daily practice and focusing on understanding the fundamentals, this section of the IPMAT exam can be handled easily. For the Verbal Ability section, students must focus on Grammar and solving various mock tests to improve their vocabulary.
