No, they are not the same. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all-India entrance exam that allows candidates to apply for IITs, NITs, IISc, and some other applied science institutes/universities. GATE exam can be given only by those candidates who have applied science degrees like B.E and B.Tech, to M.Tech and M.Sc by research integrated Ph.D. and direct Ph.D. program. IIT JAM (Joint Entrance Test for M.Sc) is an all-India entrance exam that allows candidates to apply for IITs, IISERs, IISc, and NITs. 1. All candidates admitted through JAM should have a Bachelors degree.
2. In the qualifying degree, the aggregate marks or CGPA/CPI without rounding-off (taking into account all subjects, including languages and subsidiaries, all years combined) should be at least 55% or 5.5 out of 10 for General/OBC (NCL)/EWS category candidates, and 50% or 5.0 out of 10 for SC/ST and PwD category candidates.
