Frankly, you will get the lower NITs with non-core branches be it mining or metallurgy. Try getting into NIT-Manipur, Silchar or Pondicherry. Assuming you are from general category, you left with these options only, though if from any other category, you may have a better chance.

The smartest people in India get the best package. Some IITians focus on studies, some on their startups and some mere on their degree. The third category has to just do their jobs. It's not about them, it's about their thoughts. Don't worry, Not IITians, but whole India is doing great and non-IITians are also doing great.

Sharpen your mind and intelligence. Don't focus on the trend listen to your needs. Start by taking small steps. Avoid any activity of getting depressed. Try thinking logically. Try solving problems rather than getting answers. Work hard for hours. And the smartest though should be " just focus of solving a 6 hours paper well rather than fighting with 12 Lacs smart peoples. " If you solve that 6 hours papers, you'll ultimately beat that crowd.
Best of luck.

If your location is your priority, I would suggest google some of the good universities which accepts JEE Mains marks. Though, moving out of your location, you can get any NIT accepts top 4 or 5. Some better suggestions are BIT-Mesra, NIT-Bhopal, NIT-Durgapur, NIT-Kurukshetra, NIT-Raipur.

Dear Tilak,
With these marks, it will get somewhat difficult for you to get some good government college like NIT. Instead of settling down for some mediocre government college, it would be better if you try for some good private university. Many reputed private universities are offering B.Tech degree with various specializations. They have their different criteria for admissions. Some offer admission on basis of JEE scores, some offer admission on basis of their own tests and some offer admission on the basis of both. Some even give direct admission based on your marks in 12th. Some of these universities also offer scholarships on bas
