Your question falls in the Ph.D English tag as well which suggests you want to do a Ph.D in English. A Ph.D depends more on the previous qualifications. The university falls under the approved universities and the course of Ph.D has its own benefits. I wish to share this personal observation, not a common though, that a Ph.D from private universities is, most of the times, looked down upon. Ph.D gives you chances of promotion in a job. It adds to the eligibility to teach UG and PG students, especially, PG classes are given to Ph.D holders. JJT is a private university, but not questionable. Ph.D has benefits.
