JMI Entrance Exam

The aim of the written test of JMI Entrance Exam for M.A. Mass Communication subject is to test the knowledge and aptitude of the candidate and to ascertain the fact that the applicant is suitable for the course. The question paper of Mass Communication subject is divided into two parts. Part A is based on multiple choice questions and Part B is based on descriptive questions. In Part A, questions related to national and international political issues/personalities, General Knowledge, Film, Television and other media and Art, Literature and culture are asked. Whereas, the descriptive paper comprises of essay type long answers which reflect the candidates' critical understanding of contemporary issues and the media. This paper also evaluates candidates' skill in visualization, story-telling and their creative aptitude. Candidates qualifying the written examination and shortlistted for interview will be required to send e-portfolios.

The syllabus of JMI Entrance Exam for admission in LLM course consist of various Law subjects such as Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Criminal Law, Family Law, Environmental Law, Corporate Law, Law of Contract, Law of Torts, International Law, Labour Law, Contemporary Legal Issues etc. The standard of questions will be based on LLB/BA LLB Hons course as per the Bar Council of India Rules. The paper is divided into three sections Part A, B and C. Multiple choice questions are asked in Part A and B, while Part C is based on descriptive questions. The questions asked in Part A are based on General Knowledge and English Language and in Part B questions are asked from legal subjects. The questions in descriptive part i.e. Part C will also be based on Law subjects.

Like all other exams, the minimum marks have been set for the candidates to qualify in the Jamia Millia Islamia entrance exam. As per the general guidelines released by the university, candidates obtaining less than 15% marks in the Objective Type/ Multiple Choice questions will not be shortlisted for interview/admission. Similarly, candidates obtaining less than 30% marks in the descriptive part of the Entrance Test, wherever applicable, will not be shortlisted for interview/ admission. As the minimum qualifying marks are fixed, the candidates should prepare themselves in such a way that they can get more than the prescribed marks in the exam and get selected for the next level.

The syllabus of Jamia Millia Islamia Entrance Exam varies as per the level of course. For the undergraduate courses, the difficulty level of questions will be based on Class 12. Hence, it is not that difficult or students need not study anything additional apart from their school syllabus or Current Affairs. Similarly for postgraduate courses, the difficulty level of questions is based on graduation. As the difficulty level of the exam depends on the question types, it is generally tricky in nature, which makes the difference in the difficulty level. The best way to tackle the JMI Entrance Exam syllabus is through revision and practicing as many sample papers as possible. According to experts and previous years' JMI exam analysis, the difficulty level of the paper is usually moderate. Moreover, toughness is subjective and it depends on the preparation level and aptitude of students.

In case where many courses or branch are there in one programme, the candidate will be allotted the course or branch as per the preference filled in the application form, strictly as per merit and the admission rules of Jamia Millia Islamia. For upgradation of course or branch, the candidate has to take admission and fill a form at the time of admission, if he or she wants to retain the allotted course or branch or want to upgrade. The upgradation of course or branch will be done strictly as per merit and JMI admission rules. Candidates should keep in mind that the down gradation will be allowed in no case. The candidate is not allowed to change the preference after the form edit date is over.

Jamia Millia Islamia adopts certain policy to break the tie, if two candidates get the same scores in the JMI Entrance Exam. The tie breaking policy is made according to the programme. In all other programmes except B.Tech, B.Arch BDS the tie is resolved on the basis of the date of birth that is the candidates older in age is given the higher rank. For interview programmes, candidates securing high marks in the entrance exam is given higher rank. If the marks in the written test are same then the date of birth criteria is used that is, candidates older in age is given a higher rank. For B.Tech, B.Arch and BDS programmes, the rank is allotted by the agency conducting the test.
