Firstly, you need to make a good study plan for preparation. For that, you must have the knowledge about the syllabus and exam pattern. On the basis of your syllabus, design a proper time table in a manner that you will get the enough time for all the subjects. Time management plays a very important role in exam preparation so while preparing the time table must take care that study of one subject should not exceed for 3-4 hour as it can make you stressful.

1. Read two newspapers every day, EVERY DAY- I would suggest the Hindu and Indian Express. Online or whatever. Read Editorials and Op-Ed properly.
2. Read Frontline every week cover to cover
3. Start reading fundamental concepts and theories (see point 6)
4: Brush up on India's political history (India after Gandhi by Ram Guha is a good start)

1.While preparing for the exam, always keep the syllabus is in your head so that you can check what you have to study and what you have studied till date. This will help you in not studying more than the syllabus.
