I have seen many linguist in both Indian or quite many foreign language including English whose student life clearly expressed their passion and opting for more than classwork sort of things. Of course you should. Else what is the use doing only A1 level? One by one you should go up to C2 or whatever level DU is offering. This only will make you eligible for different opportunities for employment.

Both of the languages are well spoken around the world. But, French language has an edge, as it is one of the official languages of united nations, and is world widely used for many official purposes too.
