Lateral entry

Candidates who pass the qualifying requirements listed below are eligible for Lateral Entry to B.Tech. A score that complies with the minimum eligibility requirements in any one of the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Tamil Nadu, prescribed Diplomas in the appropriate branch of Engineering or Technology, or an equivalent, is required for admission to the Degree Course. Candidates pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree must have earned the required minimum eligibility mark in any accredited programme with a minimum duration of three years and follow the 10+2+3 year curriculum, as well as have taken core mathematics as one of their degree-level courses. Minimum Eligibility Marks: Both Diploma and B.Sc. Qualified candidates have to obtain the following minimum eligibility marks for admission to Lateral Entry as prescribed in G. O. MS No.263, Higher Education (J2) Department, dated 30.06.2008 and as per directions issued in Government Letter No.5464/J1/2011-1, Higher Education Department, dated 4.7.2011. The minimum average marks in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry put together for general category is 55%, for Backward Class including Backward Class Muslim is 50%, for MBC & DNC is 45%, and for SC/SCA/ST mere pass in the qualifying examination for Diploma Examinations as stipulated by the State Board of Technical Education, Tamil Nadu / B.Sc. , Degree Examinations / Equivalent. If you are eligible then fill the application form either on the official website or you can get the application form offline by visiting the college. Fill the form carefully and attach all the necessary documents. If you qualify the eligibility criteria then the institute will contact you for further counselling process. Generally MCE conduct offline counseling for lateral entry schemes. Based on your merit and the availability of seats, you will be allocated a seat in the B.Tech programme at MCE - Meenakshi College of Engineering. The process is described as follows:
Passed Diploma examination with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) in ANY branch of Engineering and Technology. Passed B.Sc. Degree from a recognised University as defined by UGC, with at least 45% marks (40% marks in case of candidates belonging to reserved category) and passed 10+2 examination with Mathematics as a subject. Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream, shall clear the subjects Engineering Graphics/ Engineering Drawing and Engineering Mechanics of the First Year Engineering Programme along with the Second year subjects. Provided that the students belonging to B.Sc. Stream shall be considered only after filling the supernumerary seats in this category with students belonging to the Diploma stream. Passed D. Voc. Stream in the same or allied sector. In the above cases, a suitable bridge Courses, if required such as in Mathematics may be conducted.
