Hi,
English Literature definitely has an edge over philosophy for sure. An English Literature or Philosophy degree qualifies you for any number of careers that have no specific skill set. Basically, it is a degree that assures potential. For instance, many people think you must have a degree to do job, but most entry-level jobs have such a steep learning curve that the need for a specific degree is obviated. Lots of English and Liberal Arts Major are doing jobs in marketing, communications, sales, etc.
All the Philosophy Majors, whom I know graduated in computer science. All the English majors who went to graduate school became lawyers o
