After BDS, you are not eligible for MA English but after BDS, you do many things like
you can apply for DEFENCE
you can apply for IAS
You can do MDS, etc.
M.A in English is a Master Degree and the course is divided into four semesters. There are so many college offering this course in India.
Eligibility criteria
You should complete graduation in any discipline with minimum 55% percentage from a recognized university. You should score minimum 50% percentage of marks in Bachelors degree.

English Literature degree helps an individual to develop thinking skills and makes them more sensitive towards the world and society. A typical English Literature course comprises of literature from various era and countries and spans novels, plays, poems and essays. English Literature definitely has an edge over philosophy for sure. An English Literature or Philosophy degree qualifies you for any number of careers that have no specific skill set. Basically, it is a degree that assures potential. For instance, many people think you must have a degree to do job, but most entry-level jobs have such a steep learning curve that the need for a specific degree is obviated. Lots of English and Liberal Arts Major are doing jobs in marketing, communications, sales, etc.

I have completed my honors degree from DU, and where it excels is the exposure a student gets, you will meet students from every nook of the country and cultures, try to absorb all that you can. As a literature student reading is your duty, read as much as you can, write whatever you can, push yourself, participate in extracurricular activities and that's all.
On an informal note, even English at Jadavpur University is considered best. So decide on others factors, like what after English and placements, which places suit
