Every hospital has its own rules with regards to compulsory services after MBBS or MD. The St. Johns Medical College Hospital began functioning in 1975. It is a private medical college and hospital situated in Bangalore. Candidates seeking admission must apply through the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) or NEET PG. The college's postgraduate courses MD last two years and includes a specific mandatory service in hospital or affiliated hospitals as mandated by St John hospital. The postgraduate MD (Homoeopathy) programme has started with 3 courses, namely Homoeopathic Material Medical, Organon of Medicine, and Homoeopathic Philosophy and Repertory. The course is regulated by the Central Council of Homeopathy. Eligibility for MD in Homoeopathy: Candidates must have completed the BHMS (Direct or Graded) degree or its equivalent, as determined by the Central Council of Homoeopathy.
1- Those who completed the prescribed internship on or before the deadline for application submission alone are eligible for admission.
2- Candidates aspiring to pursue the course need to have a BHM degree with a minimum aggregate score of 60% from a university recognised by the Medical Council of India.

Madras Medical College dates back to 1664 when it was founded as the Government General Hospital to treat the sick soldiers of the East India Company. In 1857 it got Affiliated to University of Madras
Its Department of Geriatric Medicine was established in April 1978 by Dr. V. S. Natarajan MD with the aim of providing comprehensive health care to senior citizens. In 1986, a separate ward for geriatric medicine was started for acute care and rehabilitation. The department offers an MD geriatrics course under affiliation with the Tamil Nadu DR. M. G. R. Medical University, Chennai. The Medical Council of India has recognised the course since its inception. The department has been approved as a training center for training doctors in the field of geriatrics by WHO and is currently upgraded as a Regional Geriatric Center under NPHCE by the Government of India.
